← Use CasesTravel App Food Icons
Travel and city guide apps run into the same design question everywhere: how do you mark "eat here" on a map without every pin looking identical? A dish icon answers it faster than a label, because a traveler recognizes the food before reading the name. Yoricon covers 29 countries, so the marker can be the local dish rather than a generic fork and knife.
Practical tips
- Map markers are smaller than you think. A pin renders around 32 px on a phone map. Use the sticker style, and put the icon on a pin or circle backdrop rather than dropping it straight onto the map.
- Pick the dish travelers already associate with the place. A marker is not the place to settle a debate about the most authentic national dish. Recognition at a glance is the only job it has.
- Pair the icon with the dish name in the local script. An icon a traveler can point at, next to the name written the way a restaurant writes it, solves an actual problem at the counter. Food pages carry names in English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish and Chinese.
- Do not use flags as food markers. A flag says nationality, not “there is food here.” Mixing the two confuses the map legend the moment you also need a nationality filter.
- Ship WebP if the app works offline. Travel apps cache heavily for use without a signal. WebP keeps the bundle smaller, and every icon here is available in both WebP and PNG.
Frequently asked questions
Can I ship these icons in a commercial travel app?
Yes. Yoricon icons are free for personal and commercial use with no attribution required, including paid and monetized apps. You may not resell or redistribute the icon files themselves.
How many countries does Yoricon cover?
The library currently covers 29 countries, browsable from the countries page. Coverage is uneven by design: cuisines with more distinct dishes have more icons.
What if a country I need is missing?
The library is still growing, and countries are added in batches. The contact page takes requests, and the countries page shows what is covered today.
